Leak detection narrows down whether water is escaping, which part of the system is involved, and where access may be needed. A damp floor or high bill is a reason to investigate, not enough by itself to choose a slab repair.
Does a higher water bill prove I have a slab leak?
No. Changed usage, irrigation, toilets, and other leaks can also affect consumption. EPA recommends checking for water-meter movement during a period when no water is being used. Movement can indicate a leak, but it does not identify the location. Include scheduled or automatic water uses when explaining the situation to the plumber.

Will Family have to open the floor just to find the leak?
Family’s detection services include listening, isolation, pressure testing, and thermal investigation where appropriate. The aim is to narrow the problem before repair access is chosen. Results depend on the piping and site conditions, so locating work cannot promise that no opening will ever be needed. Ask what has been established and what remains uncertain.
Can a thermal camera see a leaking pipe through concrete?
It shows surface temperature patterns, not a direct picture of water or a pipe through the slab. A temperature difference can be a useful clue, but other conditions can create similar patterns. Thermal findings need to be interpreted with the rest of the investigation and, where relevant, moisture measurements.

Is a sewer camera the same test as water-supply leak detection?
No. A sewer or drain camera inspects the accessible interior of drainage piping. A suspected leak in a pressurized hot- or cold-water line is a different problem and may require pressure, isolation, listening, or other tests. Ask which system a proposed inspection examines and what question it can answer.

How do you choose between opening the slab and rerouting a line?
The location of the failure, access, the affected line, and the condition of the remaining piping all matter. A direct repair addresses the accessible failed section; a reroute gives the affected supply line a different path. Ask Family to explain why the proposed option fits the findings and what wall, ceiling, or floor restoration is included.
Will an automatic shutoff prevent every water-damage problem?
No. Devices differ: some detect moisture at a sensor, while others monitor water use and may close a valve when their settings identify a problem. Coverage depends on the device, installation, and configuration. Family has installed Moen Flo equipment; ask what the chosen setup monitors and what it cannot detect.
